All three kids are at such good ages right now.
Mila (almost 7) is responsible, insightful, clever, and eager to learn. She prepares snacks for her little siblings, cleans up without being asked, is so happy at school, and is remarkably patient with all of us. I love how grateful she is for little things and how liberal she is with compliments.
Margot (almost 5) is getting better at expressing her big emotions in productive ways, which is hugely helpful. She is a loyal friend and takes such good care of her little brother. Of course, sometimes they literally growl in each other’s faces, but maybe it’s a wolf pack kinda thing: she asserts her dominance but will protect the little guy at all costs.
Ryan (2 1/2) is hilarious. His language development really took off once he started walking, and in only six months he’s gone from a handful of useful words to complex multi-word sentences. And hearing how his little brain works is so dang funny. Also, why is that toddler squat so cute to me? I’ve said it before, but two-year-olds are seriously my favorite. They’re such a breath of fresh air after that larva newborn phase.
We still have our fair share of fighting and whining. Maybe more than our fair share of that, actually. There’s always something to challenge my patience. But overall, we’re in a good place right now.
Since I know Margot starting kindergarten will shift our home dynamic dramatically, I’m trying to savor things for a minute. These seasons never last long, and I’ll miss this one when it ends.
Until then, I’m enjoying it as much as I can.
