WE HAVE BOOKSHELVES!!!
All caps and extra exclamation points are absolutely necessary here. Don’t question me. My poor sweet books have been overcrowded and/or homeless for far too long. And I know David is getting real tired of the piles in the corner.
Speaking of David, can I just brag on him for a minute? I love being married to this guy, and not just because he’s handsome and funny and smart and a great dad. Homeboy can make just about anything. I show him a picture of what I want and he’s like, “Yeah, sure, no problem!” And then he goes and welds and saws and drills and sands and paints and beautiful things magically appear.
He made these, guys. With his hands. Like a boss. And I’m so pleased with how they turned out. They fill the space without being visually heavy, which is just what I wanted. Even without books and things in place, the shelves make our room feel so much more intentional. Like we aren’t just sleeping there, we actually live there. Does that make sense?
As soon as the paint is fully cured I can start loading them up. That’s the fun part! Styling shelves is one of my favorite things. I don’t know how good I am at it, but I enjoy it, so who cares?
Given David’s hectic work schedule (he left at 4:45 AM yesterday, poor man) I’m not sure how likely we are to get a headboard and bed put together in the next two weeks. That’s okay, though. The shelving alone has made a huge difference.
I’ve (finally) rolled out the rug, put new bedding on, and am shopping for throw pillows, a chair, and new hardware for the dresser. Bed aside, it’s now mostly a matter of tying everything together and making it look finished.
Incidentally, I need opinions on colors. Everything is pretty neutral right now but I always need a few pops color in my life. Poppy red? Citron? Kelly green? Cobalt? All of the above? (I kid. Mostly. I make no promises.) What do you think?
Also, I have only a few pieces of art reserved for the room and I’m not sure they’re what I want in there anymore. David says he’s bored of the giraffe batik–something he picked up in Kenya years ago–so they’ll probably move into the baby’s room. I adore the abstract, but it might not be working for me in that room. Maybe I’ll put it in the girls’ room? Or the living room? Really it would be fine almost anywhere in our house. The only one I’m certain of is this print from Clara Elsaesser that I am a leeeetle bit obsessed with. What do you think? We need something in here…but what?
If I don’t get it all done before the One Room Challenge ends, that’s okay. This challenge has been the perfect motivation for me to get the ball rolling, and right now I’m really really happy with how things are coming together. For me, that’s enough.
Meanwhile, I need your input! 1) What bright color should I be throwing around the room to punch it up? And 2) what are your favorite art resources? Any favorite artists or works that I should check out?
Head on over to Calling It Home to see how everyone else is doing this week! I’m also linking up over at Decor To Adore‘s “Thoughts of Home on Thursday” which is chock full of more inspiration, so you may want to stop by there too!

A little bit of red, for me, is required before any room feels “done.” 🙂

latterdayhome.com has some really beautiful artwork. I love the Brian Kershisnik pieces the very best. Also, I vote for the poppy red. I love red as an accent color!

I do love me some Kershisnik. I’ll have to see what I can find.

When you have a husband who is willing to pitch in and help with your projects it’s the best! I love the artwork and see little pinks of pink in there maybe along with the green.
Thank you so much for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday. We love having you. 🙂

Love those shelves! I am a bit late to the TOHOT party this week due to my college semester finals but I’m so glad that I didn’t miss this. Have a wonderful week.
