Amelia: 145 weeks and Margot: 47 weeks
A lot changed last week.
We had a house guest over the weekend, so Mila moved into the pink room with Margot to free up the white room. Mila has never been a good sleeper and doesn’t sleep well when she’s not at home in her crib, so I was worried about moving her at all. Thankfully, the transition has been remarkably smooth, since having the girls share a room was the plan all along.
We also, as you may have noticed, took the front rails off the crib so it’s now more like a toddler bed. We tried having Mila sleep in a twin bed probably eight months ago and it did not go well. She woke up in the middle of the night and ran screaming through the house. She’s been in her crib ever since, and Margot sleeps in the pack-n-play. It works for now. I’m hoping that keeping her in the bed she knows while giving her the freedom to get in and out on her own will help make the full transition to a big girl bed easier when we eventually do that.
She had her first ballet class last Wednesday and did great. Parents have to watch through a window in the hall, but she didn’t mind that I wasn’t in the studio with her. In fact, she was kind of the class clown, jumping around and admiring herself in all the mirrors. Her teacher is patient, though, and Mila will learn to follow instructions better as class progresses. I’m looking forward to her recital in May.
Miss Margot is now pulling herself up on anything and everything. Beds, couches, my face…she thinks everything is her jungle gym and she’s thrilled about it. It’s cute and funny but also a little terrifying. She wants to explore way more than Mila ever did, so we’re going to have to be careful to secure furniture and keep a close eye on her.
I finally took her to the pediatrician last week because she’d been SUPER grumpy (she’s usually so pleasant so all the crying and screaming was really weird) and had developed a small rash on her face. Turns out she was a hot mess.
She’s getting molars, because the kid clearly does not grow teeth in a normal order at all.
She’s getting over some throat thing–likely a mild strain of strep–which explains why she wanted to nurse all the time but fought like crazy when we tried to give her solid food. It must have hurt to swallow anything but liquids.
And she has impetigo. Yay.
Orajel has helped with the teething, antibiotic cream has the impetigo almost cleared up, and she’s making up for lost time by eating everything in sight. My happy baby is (mostly) back to normal.
It’s so sad when there’s something wrong with your kid and you don’t know what it is. It’s almost worse when you find out that it was kind of serious and you didn’t do anything about it right away. I felt like such a terrible mother hearing all those diagnoses…and it’s not like they’re terrible or anything, but shouldn’t I have noticed that she blisters on her throat??
Oh well. What’s done is done and there’s no permanent damage, and I’ll just try to be more attentive next time.
Meanwhile, I think this week will be a good one. We’ve got great weather, some fun things on the schedule, and everyone is smiling today. We can do this.
