The water is wide. I cannot cross o’er
And neither have I wings to fly,
But build me a boat that will carry two
And both shall row, my love and I.
And neither have I wings to fly,
But build me a boat that will carry two
And both shall row, my love and I.
This song, memorized years ago during high school solo and ensemble practices, was in my head last night. It seemed appropriate, given the circumstances.
Sometimes the water seems awfully wide, and much as I wish I knew all the shortcuts over or around it, I’m afraid we usually just have to build us a boat and row. Together. As man and wife are meant to do.
