About three weeks ago, I had a perfect day. The kind of day where everything just falls into place, and nothing is rushed, and everyone is happy, and you go to bed feeling like you’ve accomplished something (however small) but still had so much fun.
It started with my bi-weekly appointment with my midwife, which went really well. I gained just the right amount of weight, which made her happy. My blood pressure was perfect. The baby’s heartbeat was strong and regular. She’s measuring right on target for our due date. I asked questions, she answered them, and we had a very reassuring chat about this whole giving birth thing. I left feeling confident and happy.
Then I stopped at the mall to pick up a few things. First stop: the Clinique counter to get some concealer. Not only was it bonus week (free makeups with purchase!) but the ladies there fawned all over me, complimenting my big ol’ belly and telling me how exciting and wonderful it is to have a baby. Not a horror story in sight, which was a very welcome change. I made my purchase, picked out my free gift, and wandered into the mall feeling quite radiant.
I’d promised David to look for more shirts for him to wear to work, and since I still had some Banana Republic gift cards leftover from Christmas, that was my next stop. Only moments after walking into the store, I found the perfect shirt. Unfortunately it was the only one in the store, and it was the wrong size. But some helpful salespeople called another store, found the shirt in the right size, and sent me off to pick it up. I do love me some good customer service.
Once the shirt was purchased, I made my way back home to freshen up because I had a date to keep. A quick brush through my hair and I was off to the airport. Why? Oh, just to meet my friend Kelli (of Kelli Nicole Photography fame) during her layover. That delightful girl was on her way to Utah to shoot a wedding but had scheduled a long layover at Sky Harbor just so she and I could play.
We drove to Tempe Town Lake and did this:
The weather was warm and breezy, and we talked and laughed and spent a lovely hour taking pictures. Then she hopped on another plane and headed out.
I went home and started dinner for David, who loved his new shirt and knew nothing about our mini photo shoot until just this weekend. (Surprise!) And I know I didn’t do anything earth-shattering or especially useful, but I was content with how I’d spent my time. So much fun. I wish all my unemployed housewife days could be like that.
