I KNOW. It’s only July. Yet here we are.
Our school district is on a modified year-round schedule. That means longer fall + spring breaks and an 8-week summer. Frankly, I think it’s fantastic. We have enough time to enjoy our summer but not so much time that we are completely sick of one another. And we’ll be able to do some fun things during the other breaks that we might not be able to if they were only a week long.
It may not be for everyone, but it works well for our family.
I gotta say, I was really proud of Margot this morning. The first day of kindergarten is a big deal and she seems to be handling it well so far.
She was excited to get dressed in her new school uniforms and completely giddy about her new backpack + lunchbox. When David came home after walking the girls to school, he said she marched right in and sat at her desk. No tears or hesitation, although she did have her “game face” on. I know she was nervous, but it sounds like she was determined to make it a good day…which is about right for her.
And I know she’ll do great once she gets into the swing of it. She’s a good reader already and makes friends easily. I can’t wait to hear about her day this afternoon.
Mila was also a little nervous but jumped right back into her regular routine. She got the teacher she wanted, which made both of us happy, and was so looking forward to seeing all her friends again.
Some kids dread the start of school. Not Mila. It’s pretty much her favorite thing, for which I’m everlastingly grateful.
So that leaves me and Bubba at home together for the next three years. WHATEVER WILL WE DO.
(All the things, that’s what. Once he gets over being sad that the girls are gone all day, and once it’s not a million degrees outside, that is.)
It’s gonna be great for everyone, I can already tell.
