Ready for another round of new foods with Jen? This time we tried a fonzy melon.
That’s right. Fonzy. You know, the nickname of Arthur Fonzarelli. The Fonz. Except I think he spells it with an “-ie”.
The fonzy melon was bigger (and smoother) than the horned melon.
And on the inside it looked like a faded out cantaloupe, mostly white with just a hint of pinky peach.
It was delicious. Sweet but not too sweet, crisp but not too crisp, and cool and refreshing like you hope honeydew will be before it disappoints you again. (Is anyone else bitter toward honeydew? Seems like it’s never even close to being ripe. Blerg.)
It was a great addition to a fruit salad of strawberries, raspberries, and peaches. I give it two thumbs up.
(Sorry…I couldn’t help myself.)

I have the SAME feelings towards honeydew!!! every time. I may have to try this new melon! 🙂

You should. I got mine at Sprouts; maybe they still have some.

I stumbled upon your blog because I too just ate a Fonzy Melon for the first time and wanted to google it to find more info about it. Grateful my local Sprouts decided to carry these delicious melons.
jenbosen says
Me too. Sprouts is pretty great like that.
Also, welcome!

Try orange honeydew, they're usually better, and the rind has ton feel waxy when you rub your hand across it, almost making it hard to rub. And, thanks for the info on Fonzy, my local fruit stand has them and your blog came up when I googled them.
jenbosen says
Well now I need to find myself an orange honeydew! Thanks for the recommendation!

Just tried Fonzy melon for the first time. We got one from our neighbors, they got it from Market on the Move. I thought it was sweeter than honeydew. We have had a few good honeydew this year, I think part of the issue is they are picked to soon, I let mine sit for a few days, then cut it, I hate crunchy melon. Also some good watermelon this year in Arizona.
jenbosen says
I agree: honeydew is usually under-ripe which is the biggest problem. But it seems to go from unripe to over-ripe so quickly! Alas.
And you're right: the watermelon thus far has been pretty spot on so far. Mmmm.

We received one today at a Market on the move too! I am planning to make a yummy fruit salad for dessert!

I hope it was delicious! And now I'm gonna have to find this market on the move thing…I'm intrigued.
