You saw our new (to us) dining set yesterday. Part of it anyway. We only need two chairs most of the time, since Mila kicks it in her hanging “high chair,” and we like having the captain’s chair at the head of the table, but the other three are off in another room awaiting some much needed wood glue.
Blond stain. Tapered legs. Classic mid-century joy. Plus there’s a leaf we can throw in there to make it bigger as needed. Bonus!
But guys. Check out the table top.
It’s water damaged and scuffed up and anything slightly damp sticks to it. Even the words from rained-on grocery bags.
My bad.
The point is, homeboy needs a good sanding in the worst way. And after that’s done, we plan to fill in the spill guard groove thing around the edge:
…because all that thing does is collect crumbs, and that’s gross. It’s a great table, but an extreme makeover is definitely in order.
These guys, though? They’re pretty gorgeous already, even in the well-used condition they’re in.
The vinyl seat is a monstrosity, but seriously. Those lines! So simple but so elegant. And the captain’s chair?
Look me in the eye and tell me that arm is not a thing of beauty. You can’t. Because it is. J’adore.
Sanding, filling, staining (we’re thinking espresso-ish), and re-upholstering are just a few more things on the (long long long) list of things to do around the house. Don’t you worry, though. I’ll let you know how it goes. Besides, I may need help picking out the right fabric to cover those seats. That shiny blue stuff has got to go.
