More choices don’t make life easier. Possibilities create pressure.
Tips for minimizing options, and the pressure that comes from having too many of them:
- Artificially limit your options.
- Be a strict editor.
- Choose ahead of time so you don’t have to choose later.
- Let someone else make the decision.
- Remember you can change your mind.
The Lazy Genius Meal Plan podcast episode is excellent, as is her episode on stocking the kitchen. If you haven’t already noticed, I adore pretty much everything Kendra does.
Anuschka Rees’s book The Curated Closet is my ultimate style + shopping guide. I have both the book and the workbook and together they have changed my life. For a free option, Miranda Anderson’s Life Free Creative podcast episode on capsule wardrobes is excellent. And if you want to pare down your clothing options even further, I wrote a post about my 5-4-3-2-1 packing trick that might help.
If you need a good Jungle Book throwback, this song is my favorite. Did you know the vultures were modeled after the Beatles? Makes sense, right?
My current favorite grilled chicken marinade, a classic steakhouse marinade, or this carne asada recipe are all excellent ways to use a grill that someone else bought for you. Ahem. (Note: I don’t use all the whole chiles for the carne asada; my kids don’t like super spicy things, so I sub in a teaspoon of chile powder for the anchos + guajillos and only use half the chipotles.)
Also, if you aren’t grilling your pineapple, you need to start doing that immediately. Sprinkle it will brown sugar first. Thank me later.
