Few things are more precious that baby animals. Really. Even baby people–for the most part–aren’t as cute as baby animals. I think it has something to do with being tiny AND fuzzy.
We’ve all been tempted (and don’t tell me you never have been, because that is a lie) to get a puppy at some point in our lives, because they’re just so precious and small and fuzzy and sweet and cuddly and you NEED one! Most of us have enough foresight to know that we don’t actually need or even want a puppy. We know they grow up to be DOGS that eat a ton and poop more and smell funny and gnaw on furniture and drool and shed and bark at the neighbors and all kinds of other things that were endearing when Dog was little and cute but are merely a nuisance now that Dog is big and not-as-cute.
Even with said foresight, though, many of us fall victim to soft wrinkly puppy faces. It can’t be helped. With pet stores in every mall and shopping center, and small children begging mommy and daddy for a pet of their very own, and those little tails wagging so hard your afraid they might fall off if you don’t take them home and love them, what’s a self-respecting person to do?
Which is why I’m grateful that pet stores just have puppies and kitties and things, and not some of these:Those big eyes! Those teeny little hooves! That fuzzy tail!
If it had been even a remote possibility, we would totally have a baby zebra in our back yard right now. I mean, look at him! I want to pet his stripey little face.

I wish I had that foresight you were talking about. We did get a puppy, and now he is a dog. That is the last thing I need now that I have kids. He is so good with them though, and they love him, so I guess it all worked out.
