This boy. My goodness, this boy.
He went through about a six-month phase where he INSISTED that everyone call him Bubba. Everyone. It was weird and adorable. Nowadays he reminds us, “I not Bubba, I WYAN.” But…old habits die hard.
He is so stinking funny. His vocabulary is enormous, but his grammar is…weird…so he constantly sounds like a foreign exchange student. What he’s saying makes sense, but it’s not quite right, y’know? Some favorites:
While poking me in the face: “Pssssst. Hi. It’s me. Wyan. Da boy.”
While listening to Hamilton: Lin Manuel Miranda says, “Jefferson has my vote!” and Ryan says, “Jefferson have him boat? He need to give it back! Give back dat guy’s boat, Jefferson!”
While driving past a horse pasture: “Mama! Look! Ho’ses!” So I say hi to the horses. “DON’T LOOK AT DA HO’SES!!!”
While in the middle of church: “IS IT TIME FOR THE SNACKER-MENT NOW?”
He is obsessed with everything green. I got him a green shirt with little lizards on it a while back and it is hands down his favorite thing to wear. Should’ve gotten a duplicate for laundry days. Alas.
He DOES NOT want to ride in shopping carts anymore. It’s endlessly frustrating because he’ll either try to ride standing on the back of the cart “like a big kid” and jump off while we’re moving (ARGH!), or he’ll run off and hide somewhere. I lost him while shopping for Halloween stuff at Forever 21 a couple weeks ago. Actually lost him for a couple minutes. That was…not great.
But he’s also the sweetest sweetheart that ever there was. He’ll notice something random–my nose, my belt, my shoulder mole–and tell me, “I just love your ____!” So even if he drives me to distraction, he’s good for my self-esteem.
He loves watching movies. This is 100% lazy parenting on my part; he has probably watched more TV in his life than his sisters have combined. But there is nothing cuter than listening to him play with “Lightning ‘Queen”, or pretending to be Eve so he can be WALL-E, or hearing him sing theme songs from his favorite shows.
In fact, the best way to get him to help clean up is to say, “Octonauts! Clean up the living room!” He’ll shout, “Aye aye, cap’n!” and start singing the Octonauts song before shouting, “Asplore! Rescue! Protect!”
I just love him.
Happy birthday, sweet boy. Thanks for being such a great little buddy.
