Since I’m not quite ready to show you after shots of the Bedroom Formerly Known As Swamp, I figured I could show you some of the rest of the house while we pull some final things together in there.
This was probably the least offensive room in the house, if you don’t count the hall or any of the closets, since I don’t think those really count as rooms by themselves, or the laundry room, which is barely big enough to count as more than a closet.
Here she is: the living room in all her former off-white glory.
Popcorn ceilings (naturally), grungy walls, and filthy tile aside, it’s a decent room. It just needed some love.
Here’s a slightly different angle (both of these were taken from the front entry) which gives you a better view of the two HUGE windows and a peek into the dining area, which looked like this when we moved in:
Forest green accent wall and apple trim. My favorite. Also more popcorn–just in the recessed bit of the ceiling though–and this beauty:
My mom says paint it and keep it. It’s kitchy and retro and awesome. I say we Craigslist it, and someone else can enjoy the awesome retro kitch. Bleh. (Although I am tempted to remove the dangly crystals and hang them in a window somewhere to make rainbows. I think Mila would get a kick out of that.)
If you ignore all the furniture smashed into various corners (why yes, that is my piano hiding in the entryway!) this shot gives the best idea of how the house fits together.
The double doors in the upper right of the frame are our front doors. The two doors just left of the entryway are a coat closet and what may have been a second linen closet. Not sure on that…I just know it has shelves. I’m using it as a sort of pantry, and much of our food storage lives there.
The doorway left of those leads into the family room, wherein resides the ugliest fireplace of all time. The dining area is on the far left, as you can see, and since the pocket door is open, you can see through to the giant window by the kitchen, which is just on the other side of that green wall.
To the right of the front doors, you can barely see where the hall begins, which leads into the bedrooms. You’ve already seen the highlights in this post, but eventually I’ll do full before and after shots of them as well.
Tomorrow: progress shots of the dining room and maybe some of what it looks like right now. Stay tuned!
