I’ve been reluctant to post much, lo these last few months. And here’s why: I don’t want this space to turn into a “pregnancy blog” or, further down the road, a “mommy blog.” So instead of writing something that just happens to include comments like, “Oh yeah, turns out the baby has kind of a FAT HEAD right now but my midwife’s not worried about it ’cause there’s still 20 weeks to go and it’s not THAT fat, no big deal,” in the midst of other life updates, I’ve chosen to keep mum entirely. Better to avoid the topic altogether, right?
Not really. It’s starting to make me sad, actually. Because I like blogging. It’s the closest thing I have to a journal, and I really love having a place to put my pictures and stories and random musings and whatnot, and I like that sometimes people respond (makes me feel validated), and quite frankly I miss it when I don’t write here very often.
But then I had an apostrophe* yesterday, and it went something like this:
THIS IS MY BLOG, DANGIT, AND I CAN WRITE WHATEVER THE HECK I WANT TO.
Brilliant, right? So that is what I intend to do. Which means I will be posting about being pregnant and about baby stuff and it will probably annoy some of you and entertain others and you know what? I don’t care either way. Because it is my blog. It’s about me. By me. Mostly for me. And dangit, I CAN write whatever the heck I want.
Hooray for self-indulgence.
Anyway, what I want to tell you is this:
My baby currently has a head with a circumference somewhere around the 70th percentile and a length somewhere around the 30th, which seems a little disproportionate and which I find weird and kind of hilarious.
Baby also thinks it’s really funny to hang out in my abdomen and wait until some unsuspecting moment, then drop dramatically into my pelvis like a bowling ball. It is not my favorite thing. Never lasts very long (there’s way more room up top than down below) but I’m thinking maybe it’s baby’s way of saying, “MOM. I’m HERE mom. Pay attention to ME,” because it usually happens when I’m busy doing something and not thinking about the contents of my womb at all. WHICH I AM ALLOWED TO DO. Silly baby.
Oh, and one more thing.
(And yes, I totally cropped my head out of this picture because the face I was making is a little bit terrifying. David says it’s my “natural smile.” Yikes. Makes me that much more grateful he married me, because another man would have probably shrieked and run far far away when I grinned at him.)
(Then again, if my smile didn’t scare him off, does that make him brave or foolish?)
(Thanks for loving me and my disturbing smile, David.)
*Name that movie, finish the quote, win a prize. Or my undying affection. Maybe both.
