“You can connect or you can compare, but you can’t do both.”
You can read the Anxiety.com article I quoted HERE. I also liked this one about the effects of social media on physical + mental health, one from Forbes that lists 6 ways social media impacts our mental health, and this one that talks more about screen time in general and how it literally rewires our brains. I believe all of these link to the actual scientific studies they cite as well, if you want to dive real deep into this stuff.
My recent blog post about consuming less and creating more was kind of the jumping off point for this episode, and is a good companion piece if you haven’t already read it.
It’s been ages since I updated it, but my “Favorite Recipes” pinboard is full of tried and true recipes that are in regular rotation at our house.
That Johnny Mountain quote was a real deep cut from 30 Rock, but I’m not sorry. It’s easily in my top 5 favorite bits on the entire show. Watch this clip collection from 3:17 to 3:49 to see what I was referencing. Margaret Cho as Kim Jong Il was perfection.
Amanda Palmer’s memoir is called The Art of Asking; or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help. (No wonder I couldn’t remember the title!) It’s NSFW and made me extremely uncomfortable a couple times, but it’s also chock full of wisdom. Read at your discretion. But know that Brene Brown wrote the forward so…it’s good.
If you haven’t yet subscribed to the podcast, here are a couple tutorials to walk you through the process. This one is for iPhones and this one is for Androids. And if you’d like to leave a review, here’s a tutorial to help with that. Thank you so much!
