I volunteered to make this scarf for a friend (who is, as I understand it, giving it to another friend) mostly because it was something different. New. Challenging. Just knitting back and forth and back and forth gets old after a while, so it was nice to have a change of pace. I knew it would require enough attention that I wouldn’t get complacent or bored but not so much attention that I couldn’t knit while watching old episodes of The Big Bang Theory. Which, in my humble opinion, is the best kind of project to work on.
Plus, you know, hooking a friend up is always fun. And also she promised to pay me in screen printed onesies. Score!
Here is a peek at the finished product:This was my first attempt at lettering and my first attempt at playing with texture. The letters were pretty simple. I found a cross-stitch alphabet online and just adapted it so that each stitch was either two knits or two purls. Piece of cake. Granted I ended up making the final “n” a bit wonky, on account of I used half an “m” instead. Not really sure how that happened. But all in all it wasn’t too difficult to figure out and implement. Here’s a closeup of the lettering:
The edges of the scarf are seed stitches, which was also new to me. Not hard (alternating purls and knits on both sides) and quite pretty. I will definitely be looking for or creating more patterns that use that stitch.
All in all a successful project, if I do say so myself. And one that I’m really glad to have finished and shipped off, because my eyes were getting tired of all that purple yarn.
I’m totally willing to take on other requests. If you want something knitted and/or crocheted and don’t mind that I’m kind of slow, I’m your girl!

how gorgeous! seriously, so impressed. I learned to knit, but really haven't done anything at all. Kudos to you. And if you're looking for a new project, keep me in mind. 🙂 Since obviously I am never going to manage to finish anything myself…

O.: Yay! Glad to have your approval. Pending seeing it in real life, of course.
R: Thanks! Let me know if you have something in mind. Seriously. A hat for the baby? Or a blankie? Just give me some specs and I'm on it.

I would love a hat! (or honestly whatever's easiest.)
