I really shouldn’t be allowed to post grouchy things and then just not blog again for more than a week. That’s just depressing for everyone. And since my irritation over all those things (minus the whole Amazing Race vs. Osama bin Laden business) hasn’t much lessened, I really don’t need a constant reminder of any of them. So let’s just put that behind us, shall we?
I’ve been nesting. Partly because I had three baby showers in three weeks, and finding space for all the gifts my generous friends and family have given has been a bit of a challenge. Partly because I am starting to really love the baby’s room–it’s turning out so pretty! And partly because let’s face it, I’m bored. I sometimes have to invent errands or space them out so I don’t do everything on Monday and find myself trolling the internet for the remainder of the week.
Anyway, I moved the piano back into the smallest corner of the room (that wall also has the room’s door and the closet door, so there’s limited wall space) and finally hung the frames that have been sitting on it for a year now. I had bought that red-orange paper back in 2007 when I decided I wanted to use it as inspiration for decorating a room. It feels good to finally be making that happen.
I made and hung some giant flowers made of napkins (I followed this tutorial) over the guest bed. With block exterior walls, I’m a little limited in what I can and can’t hang there unless I really want to put some heavy duty screws or nails in them. Which I didn’t. Masking tape was sufficient for these, which made me happy. And on the adjacent wall is this little guy:
One of my sisters-in-law painted a baby sloth for me! I adore him. Plus he’s on just a very lightweight canvas, which made it easy to hang him from a ribbon tied around an already existing nail in the block wall. That corner is the first thing you see when you walk in the room, and having the big flowers and the happy sloth to brighten it up has really made a difference in how I feel about going in there.
Another sister-in-law made a mobile of paper cranes, flowers, and beads for me to hang over the crib. It’s funny: I had something completely different in mind when I asked her to make this for me, but the way it turned out is just perfect for the room.
Now I just need to figure out the corner with the rocking chair and I’m set. I’ve got some paper lanterns that I want to use as a sort of night light, but I’m not sure how I’d display them if that’s even feasible. I want to hang some photos in that corner too, once I’ve gathered a few more and have frames for them. When things are finalized, I’ll take some pics of the whole room so you can see things in context (as opposed to all these close-ups that don’t show my crocheting mess or the overflowing trash can).
It feels good to be making my little corner of the world a little prettier. Now let’s get this tiny one here so I can be a stay-at-home mom and not just a stay-at-home Jen who has way too much time on her hands!
