Guys. GUYS. My brain is full of so many creative projects right now, it’s getting ridiculous.
I’ve mentioned on Twitter that I got an idea for a book…and as I started feeling it out, it morphed into two books. Two very different books, I might add. And then, as I started making arrangements to do some serious writing, I had another flash of inspiration. Completely unrelated to either book. Completely within my interests, educational background, and life experience. I thought I was excited about my book babies, but this thing? This project feels like it’s within reach in a way that writing a book never has.
It’s freaking me out in the best kind of way.
I feel like I need to transition from survival mode to manically making stuff happen as soon as possible. It’s weird. And great. And overwhelming. I mean, I’m still not getting 8 hours of sleep most nights. Being a stay-at-home mom of three little ones is no joke. Plus with David’s long work hours and side hustles, I can’t help wondering 1) what on earth am I thinking and 2) how on earth will I make this work?
Which is why I chose PLAN as this month’s mantra.
If I’m going to make any of these creative dreams come to life, I’ve got several boat-loads of planning to do.
My biggest challenge at the moment will be scheduling the time I need to focus on these projects. Preschool + kindergarten are not going to provide enough kid-free time for me, plus summer break is only a few weeks away. We’re gonna have to look into some childcare options so I can have at least a few hours a week to pound stuff out.
Despite having fairly concrete ideas in place, I haven’t done much to organize them. I have a spreadsheet started for one project, notes on both my phone and my laptop for another, and rapidly growing lists of things to look into or start working on. Setting completion dates feels silly at this point, but for at least one project I need to have solid deadlines. And, OH MY GOODNESS I have SO MUCH research to do. Reading + surveying + designing + collaborating. So much preparation if I’m going to bring anything to fruition.
But instead of feeling daunted at the tasks ahead of me, I’m crazy excited!
Is this what it feels like to “find and follow your passion?”
Don’t mind me for being vague about things for now. I promise I’ll fill you in as my plans solidify…because this could benefit you AND I’ll need your input to make it happen!
Until then, I’m off to make some plans!
Do you have any fun projects in the works? I’ve decided to participate in NaNoWriMo this year to help me with my book writing plan. The rest? All up to me. Yikes. Wish me luck.

A book?! I love books! I love writing books! 🙂 I’ve been writing fiction for the last five or six years (it all began with nanowrimo!) and I just have so much fun with it. Still hoping I’ll get published eventually, but so far nada. Are your planned books fiction (and if so, what genre?? I’m a major fantasy nerd, so epic fantasy all the way for me). Non-fiction? Have you done this kind of writing before? I just have all the questions and now I need all the answers, clearly.
