Several months ago I found this skirt on ASOS that I reeeeeally wanted. Granted, that happens pretty much every time I peruse their skirts, but still. It was cute and on sale and in a moment of weakness I ordered it.
Unfortunately, my purchase has proved problematic. It’s a color I adore but almost never wear because I don’t know how. My gut instinct says throw on a white tee and call it good, but that’s so BORING. It has pockets (huzzah!) but the skirt is kind of a weird cut. It’s not quite mid-calf length, but is definitely below my knees. It has a paper bag waist, which has to sit just right in order to not look bunchy or droopy or both. When it works, it really works, but when it doesn’t…it’s a little frustrating. I love it. I hate it. We’re frenemies.
However, I’ve seen tons of girls rocking mustard all over the interwebs with no trouble at all. I knew it could be done, I just wasn’t sure how to do it. Then I heard this song on the radio and it suddenly became clear.
“The problem is all inside your head,” Paul Simon said to me. “The answer is easy if you take it logically. I’d like to help you find the sartorial key. There must be fifty ways to wear your mustard.”
And while he was probably right, I thought fifty might be a little ambitious. So I set myself a more manageable goal.
Over the next who-knows-how-long I’ll be attempting to style my mustard skirt in at least fifteen different ways. I’ll be pulling inspiration from Pinterest, style blogs, and any other sources that strike my fancy. Each “15 Ways” post will include both the inspiration pic and a shot of my interpretation. I’m not planning to post with any regularity, just whenever I manage to get an outfit photo featuring the mustard skirt. It could take a few weeks. It could take a year. I’m in no rush.
Anyway, since today’s prompt is “Interpret Your Own” for the OTI style challenge, it was the perfect kick in the pants I needed to start this little series. So here you are.

The interpretation:
Navy & mustard w/ brown leather accessories. Easy peasy. Why did I not think of this on my own?
Bad photo quality aside (I was taking these with literally the last scraps of daylight and it is HARD to stand still when your shutter speed is super super slow so you don’t have to use a flash!) I’m pretty pleased with the ensemble. It’s comfy, easy, and I feel cute in it.

Haha! I love that you called your skirt your frenemy. But seriously, any skirt that has pockets is most definitely a friend, especially when it's mustard. Can't wait to see how else you use it!
