We’ve had an interesting week thus far at our house. It’s Spirit Week at the elementary school, so we’ve been sending Mila off in mustaches and weird hats and silly socks.
Margot caught a stomach bug. Yesterday she walked into preschool, threw up on the floor, and walked right back out crying. So she’s spending a lot of time asleep or watching movies on the couch, and I’m spending a lot of time catching and/or cleaning up her vomit. At what age do kids figure out how to keep that stuff fairly contained???
Ryan boy still isn’t crawling but has figured out how to scoot. It is pretty funny to watch. He’s inching all over the house on his lil bum and I’m slowly baby-proofing everything in his wake.
Just when I start thinking I’ve got stuff on lock, something happens up to remind me I have literally no idea what I’m doing. Like when you have no idea how filthy your floor is until you’ve got a mobile baby. Or when the ants, like life, keep finding a way. Ugh.
Last night, when Margot woke up panic-crying, David rushed in to minimize the vomit damage. He took care of bed cleanup while I carried her into the tub to rinse off. Poor barfy girl started screaming because there were ants in the bathtub (they’re now coming out of the crack between the faucet and the tile, because of course they are) and they were crawling on her. I moved her to the counter and cleaned her up in the sink instead. David put clean sheets on her bed; fortunately none of her millions of blankets or stuffed animals were in the splash zone, so the mess was minimal. I braided her hair to keep it out of her face in case she needed to throw up again and helped her back to bed. Then David took care of the ants while I nursed the baby, who had woken up during all the excitement and was literally laying in puddles of his own tears.
All told, it took only half and hour or so to get everyone settled down and back to sleep. We hardly had to discuss anything during that time; David knew his role and I knew mine. Afterward, once we crashed into bed, we talked about how the incident went about as well as we could’ve asked for, all things considered.
And I realized for the millionth time how well we work together.
I’m so grateful to have him on my team.

Gosh it’s been a rough week over here too! So much sickness I’m tired of it!
Love having a good partner in the midst of it all. That always helps. Andrew does the room clean up usually because he has almost no sense of smell so he can handle it and I wash the kid so that they DON’T smell anymore hahaha it works out 😉

Sounds like a decent setup to me! Our deal is (generally speaking) I handle poop messes and he handles vomit. Obviously that doesn’t always pan out, depending on who’s around when it happens, but it works all right. In theory, my job will be done when they’re all potty trained! (Fingers crossed!)
