I need to take a break from self-portraits to complain. Sort of.
My problem is thus: I am paralyzed by the thought of hanging things on my walls.
When I look at those enormous blank spaces, I wish they were filled with beautiful and happy art, but alas. They are not. And at this rate, they never will be.

I’ve browsed dozens of websites, pinned a bunch of prints and paintings that I would hang in my house, but even pinning things gives me the cold sweats these days. If I adore an etching by Albrecht Dürer; what’s wrong with adding it to a Pinterest board? It’s not like I’m spending money on it. I’m just committing to admitting that I like it. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL.

Plus I totally want to support new artists. I love me some classics (give me anything by Rothko or Van Gogh or El Greco or any number of Italian masters and I’ll be positively giddy) but I also like finding people who are creating gorgeous things right now. I want to encourage them and let them know that their work means something to someone. I just wish the good vibes I were sending out said as much to that effect as actually purchasing their work would.

Am I afraid I’ll change my mind and hate something once it’s on my walls? Perhaps, but that’s what spackle and paint are for. No nail hole is permanent. And if I truly dislike something, I can always sell it on Craigslist. Am I afraid people will judge me by what I display in my home? A little bit, yes, but I can’t let that bother me too much. I like what I like, and if you can’t stand looking at the things on my walls, then maybe you shouldn’t come over to visit. So if those two things aren’t really the issue, then what is? What is my deal?

If you like it, don't worry about it. We have all sorts of random stuff on our walls that I love, but I am sure other people wonder about. Also, I think a small original is better than a big print. We try and find stuff when we travel, or find things that have some sort of meaning or story. I think your house is turning out great! I can't wait to see more of it. You have great taste.
