Okay, not a new blog. The same old blog with a facelift. And a new name. And lots of new other things too.
For a long time this blog has been a place for me to document my life, tell silly stories, and general word vomit into the ether. Over the last couple years, though, it’s evolved into much more than that. As things have changed, I’ve felt more of a responsibility to use this platform for something more. Rather than letting it be a time suck–albeit an enjoyable one for me–I’d like it to serve even a small purpose. Make my life and maybe the world a tiny bit better.
Enter David.
He and I have had some very productive conversations lately, and we’ve reached a few conclusions in regards to ye olde blog. David will be contributing posts every now and then, which I’m really excited about, but beyond that we’ll be doing just what I mentioned above: using this space to do more. Here’s what we’re hoping to achieve:
More creativity.
We have a lot of home improvement stuff on our agenda this year, including finishing our kitchen. There are quite a few smaller DIY projects we want to show you and hope we can give tutorials on a semi-regular basis. I’ll be stirring up good stuff in the kitchen and redecorating the house like a mad lady, just like I always do. David will be welding and sewing and hammering and designing as usual. The biggest difference is that we plan to document and share more of our creations and the processes behind them with you…not just because we’re proud of our work but because we hope to inspire you to be more creative too.
More exploration.
Our family was so generous this Christmas that we ended up with passes to the zoo, the children’s museum, and tickets to Biosphere 2! Plus I recently won two Pogo Passes from Siri, which hooks us up with all kinds of fun activities! We’ve got adventures to go on! But more than exploring our community and the world in general, we want to turn inward and find out what is important to us. We’ll be digging deeper into our parenting, our marriage–which means the marriage interview series will definitely be continuing!–our aesthetic, and our goals. It’s a process, you know, to figure out your priorities and how to find a good balance in life. As we do this, you’ll definitely notice…
More meaning.
We want to bring more purpose and direction to our lives and, subsequently, the blog. Our choices will be more deliberate, both in what we do and in what we share. Let me be clear: we are not going to live our lives “for the blog.” We are, however, going to give you a peek into how we are trying to design a meaningful life for ourselves in the hopes that you will be inspired to do the same. There will be a whole heap of messy reality. There will also be a whole heap of beautiful reality. Because that’s how life works, right? You take the mess and try to turn it into something meaningful.
So when is this all going down?
It’s been a work in progress for a while now, but we’re not quite sure when the “new” blog will be ready to launch. We’ve bought a domain and are meeting with a designer this weekend to put things together. Obviously it will take some time to get right, so I hope you’ll be patient with us as we make this transition. We will keep you updated along the way.
For now, we’ll be here. We’ll be posting regularly and kicking off some of our new projects and features. The transition from NCON to the new site should be pretty seamless, but it’s going to take quite a bit of behind-the-scenes work. Like I said, it’s a process. We hope you’ll stick around for it, because it’s going to be a lot of good growth and a lot of fun!

I love that you have the energy to do this. Want to pass some along to me?! Can't wait to see the new face of Jenvid! (That's what I'm calling it until you announce the name change…)

Let's just consider it my third, fourth, and fifth child. And my part-time job. And my husband in grad school. BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE TAKING YOUR ENERGY AND THAT IS OKAY
