Amelia: 186 weeks and Margot: 88 weeks
Sometimes I worry that I’m not doing a very good job of teaching my children the important things. Mila is concerned about which presents under the tree are for her, and adds new things to her wishlist every day. Margot is fascinated by the lights on houses in our neighborhood and the ornaments on the tree, and that’s pretty much it. I know they’re still little and can only understand so much, and I do want them to enjoy the lights and presents and decorations and the magic of Christmas. But I also want them to know about Baby Jesus and the joy, light, and hope He brought into the world.
When Mila did this all on her own, I nearly cried.
She put on a “hood” like Mary and put “Baby Jesus” in His “basket” and has played like this all morning.
As for Margot, she loves to look at the animals in our newest Christmas book, “Room for a Little One.”
She calls Joseph “shahpah” (shepherd) and Mary “queen” but she knows the Baby is the important one. I’m calling it a win.
Much of what they know has come from good teachers at church, for whom I am so grateful. I hope my girls continue to learn about the Babe of Bethlehem and grow to love Him and His story.
Because that’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
